Champlain Canal Lock 4

Lock C4 is located just north of the town of Mechanicville and Lock C3 (1.83 miles), where the canal diverges from the Hudson River for a short while creating an artificial island. This lock lift boats up 16 feet from the river (elevation: 67.5 feet) into an artificial channel (elevation: 83.5 feet).

This lock is a combination lock and canal park. There are picnic tables, grills, lock overlook and trails on site. The lock can be crossed by a bridge on the southern end of the lock for more recreational activities. The lock master can be reached on VHF channel 13 or via phone at (518) 664-5261. Lock C5 is 14.3 miles north.

Directions: From Stillwater, take the Stillwater Bridge Road across the Hudson River and the Lock Road will be on your right. Note that there are two roads here, make sure you enter the road for the lock and not the island access road. The lock is clearly marked. Coming from the west the lock will be on your left before crossing the Hudson. Note: the gate is locked each night so do not stay too late.
