Lock C8 is located in the outskirts of the town of Fort Edward, two miles from Lock C7. The first of three scenic locks (Locks C8-C11) for northbound boaters, the lower side of this lock makes a good place to stop and have lunch. On the upper side of the lock, be sure to take a look at the cows and the picturesque background to the south of the canal. The lock raises and lowers boats 11 feet, from 129 feet to 140 feet above sea level.
The lock master can be reached on VHF channel 13 or by phone at (518) 747-5520. Lock C9 is 6 miles to the north-east.
